About

Who We Are

The American Civil Accountability Alliance (ACAA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(4) advocacy organization dedicated to preserving and strengthening Americans’ ability to pursue justice through the courts.

Across the country, powerful interests are waging a coordinated campaign to discredit litigation finance, impose burdensome disclosure mandates, restrict legitimate claims, and advance punitive tax and procedural proposals that would effectively shut the courthouse doors to anyone without deep pockets.

ACAA exists to counter that effort.

What We Do

Through public education, legislative engagement, and strategic advocacy, ACAA works to ensure that the civil justice system remains fair and accessible to all. We are building a broad, durable coalition of worker, consumer, and small business advocates, legal experts, and litigation funders who will ensure that:

Plaintiffs can challenge wrongdoing without fear of retaliation, cost barriers, or procedural traps

Legitimate claims are judged on their merits, not dismissed through artificial barriers

Litigation finance remains lawful, ethical, and available as a vital accountability tool

Objectives

Serve as a national voice for plaintiffs and accountability advocates

ACAA champions policies that protect workers, consumers, and small businesses’ right to bring meritorious claims — regardless of their financial means — and highlights the essential role litigation finance plays in ensuring a fair and functioning civil-justice system.

Defend lawful litigation funding

We counter coordinated efforts to discredit litigation finance, a tool that enables individuals and small businesses to challenge deep-pocketed corporate defendants. ACAA opposes excessive disclosure mandates, punitive tax proposals, and other measures designed to cripple the litigation-finance ecosystem and deter accountability.

Strengthen equal access to the courts

ACAA fights procedural barriers that restrict legitimate claims and advocates for policies that keep the courthouse doors open to people and small businesses seeking justice, not just those with deep pockets.
